Installing GitHub Desktop on your Windows device

GitHub Desktop is a tool that allows you to interact with GitHub from the desktop. With this new application, you can work easier without having to depend on your browser. GitHub Desktop supports; attributing commits with collaborators, checkout branches with pull requests, push to your remote Git repositories, view CI statutes, syntax highlighted diffs, shell integration and much more.

Once you install this application, you should find it easier to contribute to projects simply and efficiently. GitHub Desktop is an Electron app, written in TypeScipt, and can be easily installed on both macOS and Windows. GitHub Desktop is used by developers and programmers.

Installing GitHub is not a tedious task at all. You just need to have a laptop, enough storage space on your laptop and steady internet. Today we would be looking at how to install GitHub Desktop on a Windows laptop. You can follow the procedures below once you have setup your device and connected it to the internet.

The very first step is to open any preferred browser of your choice. Once you have done that, type this website on the browser (desktop.github.com). This should lead you to a whole new webpage. Once you must have gotten to the GitHub desktop site (the new webpage in the previous instruction), you would notice you have 2 options; download for macOS and download for Windows. Since we are downloading GitHub for Windows, we would go with the download for Windows option. You would notice a button that reads “Downloads for Windows (64 bit)”. Click on that button.

Upon clicking the button, a dialog box would pop up asking if you would like the application to run. After agreeing to run the program, it is advisable to stay on that page as the application downloads, Staying on the webpage is advised incase anything comes up while the download is on. This process does not take time as long as you have good and fast internet.

Once the download is done, install the app. Once installed, the app would launch on its own. Sign in with your personal details and you can begin to use the app as you please.
